In Spotler Message, it is possible to import contacts with labels attached to them. This feature allows to easily send messages to contacts with the same label, improving your campaign targeting and efficiency. In this article, we describe how to do so.
First create your labels
Importing labels works for existing labels only. If they are not already added into your Spotler Message account, they will not be shown with the import.
To create new labels, first go to Settings, Labels to add the desired labels to your account. Read this article for a detailed description.
Importing contacts with labels
Follow the steps below to add labels to your contacts through an import.
- Go to the Contacts module of Spotler Message and click on Add on the top of the module.
- A pop-up now appears. Choose Import as the method to select.
- Select the channel you want to use for these contacts. Each contact remains unique to its channel.
- Now you will configure the import details. Select Update under the Existing contacts section.
Finally, make sure you select Version 2 (recommended) under the File format section. This is important, as version 1 will not work for importing labels.
- Now you will select your import CSV file. This needs to contain the column phoneNumber as very first column.
Next you add labels (needs to be named exactly that) as a column, followed by all other relevant colums you normally use for your imports. See below for an example:
Important: if the column labels is missing, no labels will be updated on your contacts. Also, if you name the column Label for example, it will be seen as a custom field and will not fully work as functional labels and dynamic lists. - Add your import CSV file to the pop-up and it should automatically render contacts for you to check before importing. Next, click on Import to complete the process.
- Your contacts will now be imported and their labels will be updated accordingly, as seen in the example below.
To assign multiple labels to a contact, seperate them with commas in your CSV file, for example: Customer, VIP.
If the Labels column is included in your new import, the labels will be updated on the contact unless you choose Ignore in step 2 of the import process under Existing contacts section.
To remove labels from a contact through an import, include a Labels column to your new import and leave it blank for the relevant contacts.
